Dr Varkha Rattu is a Specialist Periodontist with advanced training and skills in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of gum disease and conditions affecting the tissues surrounding teeth and dental implants.
After qualifying from Queen Mary University of London in 2018, Varkha undertook further training in general dental practice and oral and maxillofacial surgery. She subsequently completed the prestigious four-year postgraduate programme in Periodontology at King’s College London, based at Guy’s Hospital, graduating with honours.
During her specialist training, Varkha gained extensive experience in managing complex periodontal and implant-related conditions using both non-surgical and surgical techniques. Her clinical interests include the management of advanced periodontitis, peri-implantitis, gum recession and mucogingival concerns, as well as regenerative procedures designed to preserve natural teeth.
Varkha is particularly passionate about providing precise, minimally invasive treatment wherever possible. She takes a calm, thoughtful and highly individualised approach to care, ensuring that every patient feels heard, well informed and comfortable throughout their treatment journey.
Alongside her clinical work, Varkha has a special interest in the relationship between periodontitis and general health, particularly diabetes. She is the founder of the Periodontitis–Diabetes Hub, an initiative created to promote closer collaboration between dental and medical professionals and to help patients understand the important connection between gum health and wider wellbeing.
Varkha has received several prestigious accolades in recognition of her clinical, academic and professional achievements.
She is also actively involved in periodontal research, and her work has received national and international recognition, including two prestigious awards from the British Society of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry. Varkha has published in several leading peer-reviewed journals and acts as a reviewer for scientific publications.
Varkha lectures nationally and internationally on all aspects of periodontal and peri-implant treatment. She delivers lectures, webinars, workshops and professional training for dentists, dental hygienists and dental therapists, translating contemporary scientific evidence into clear, practical guidance for everyday clinical care.

This patient had failing dentures and bridges and was looking for a more stable, comfortable and predictable solution.
For the lower jaw, two dental implants were used to retain a denture, dramatically improving stability. This allows the patient to smile with confidence, eat the foods they enjoy and live without the worry of their denture moving or causing discomfort.
